That's not quite what I meant, actually (my bad wording) - I meant that the more effort I put into trying to help novices, the worse I am at it. I'm aware that the time I spend doing other things means I'm less likely to help novices too, but for me the main issue is that I'm just rubbish at it.
I don't know the answers to most of their questions, I don't remember what it was like before being demigod even though it wasn't that long ago, things like that. Then if I actually try to make a concerted effort I just become that person who won't stop asking if you're doing alright. Or I panic and try to answer the question even though I don't know the answer, and get it wrong.

Geography is my worst one. If I -do- manage to tell someone where they should be hunting, they invariably ask me where it is. I am left thinking "er, it's this pathway...oh wait, you can't pathfind...um...I have no idea".

There there are skills... "What is stoneskin for?" "I don't know, autodeffing up? Prolly some resistance somewhere, don't ask me!"
I keep getting people asking me where to hunt at x level, then I give them somewhere I bashed about that point and they light up deathsights. I need to remember not everyone has plate armour and surge.

If they are in my guild, I tell them GHELP HUNTING.
Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"
Daraius said: You gotta risk it for the biscuit.
Pony power all the way, yo. The more Brontaurs the better.
I have an unusually strong urge to talk about myself at great length. Since it was a choice between talking about Portius or bothering my cat with my voice, you people get to read about Portius.
He's a scientist in Hallifax. That is a core part of his identity. He very strongly believes that the sciences are the highest calling possible for a person, and that even if artists are nominally their equal, the scientists are more important. That belief in the inferiority of artists never extended to placing them below the second place in the hierarchy of importance, and it has faded over time as he interacted with Isune and certain members of Hallifax.
On the topic of Isune, Portius is deeply devoted to her. The only thing that he think is less likely than leaving her order is leaving Hallifax itself. She is his goddess and he owes her his service. She repays this by giving her advice and blessings regularly, but even if she was to start ignoring him completely, he would not leave her service. The day that his service to her was recognized and she declared him to be her weaver was one of the happiest in his life.
He appreciated it as a recognition of his service, and to a great extent Portius' life is defined by service, to Isune and to Hallifax. It would not be a stretch to say that Portius defines love as serving someone and being happy to do so. He's recently added a third person to the list of entities that he serves, and it makes him exceedingly happy.
He has accumulated several offices, and while he fulfills their duties his main form of service is in writing, both research papers and more literary works. This went hand in hand with him becoming librarian of Hallifax, although he wrote before taking that office. Of all of those offices, that of the librarian was first and he still thinks of himself as a librarian, first and foremost. He's very proud of starting the Logician, even if it isn't as successful as he would like and he won't admit it to anyone.
In terms of personality, I went for cultivated stoicism. His instinct is to throw himself into devoted service of ideals that he perceives to be perfect, and part of that was training himself to be the perfect Hallifaxian gentleman, a stoic. The natural inclination was there, but it was practiced. He prefers to look at a subject and study it very intently before acting, which gives him some trouble in social circles due to the lack of textbooks on the matter. He's getting much better, though, with lessons from his cousins and Isune. He can understand lessons. Lessons are good.
He inherited a couple of quirks from me as a player. I think the main one is that he generally giggles, sometimes at inappropriate times, rather than unleashing a more masculine laugh. He also has a rather pronounced phobia of millipedes, which has never come up and I doubt it ever will, but it is planned out if it ever becomes relevant. He also rambles from time to time, just as I have done and have just finished doing here.
Any sufficiently advanced pun is indistinguishable from comedy.
Ghrowlii is not the social type, even though she may sometimes seem to be so to others. She prefers to be alone with either herself or with her goat. Her goat is her most prized "thing". She really likes other creatures too, but her goat is above all. (so don't make any derogatory comments about "Markhor" or she will either ignore you or keep away from you.) She also much prefers going hunting over sparring and any other combat related actions. She does not really like killing people, and prefers to stay away from such situations where combat is required. She also loves to eat, anything from blueberry cake to bacon strips. Being a monk, she spends most of her time reflecting on events, herself, and sometimes other people. This is why she is often seen to be daydreaming, or staring into space. She is one of those Loboshigaru who don't have a pack, and therefore has learned to rely on herself. One of the loner types.
I of course try to make her her own character, and try not to put too much of me in. Even so, I find it difficult to make her too different, so she is actually very similar to me. By the way, "Markhor" is actually one real species of goat....one with very pretty horns.
Titus is in a fun place right now. I've pretty much forgotten who he was when I made him four years ago (except for a journal entry that is pretty interesting. Don't remember writing it at all.) and since I haven't played him since then, I kind of get a nice fresh slate to toy with.
He's humble. For all his 131 years, he fully admits his ineptitude at basically everything. He's generally cheerful and upbeat, and has a sense of humor that is likely to make an appearance the majority of the time. He wont go out of his way to talk to people, but I think that's a result of being so wide-eyed about everything because of how new and fresh it all is.
He doesn't have much of a plan, aside from learning to stand on his own two feet and get out and see some of the world, but he definitely wants to become stronger. He is absolutely a work in progress and I can't wait to find out what kind of person he turns into.
Started out as a hurr durr Krokani in Hallifax, speaking broken English/Common and feeling beaten down by the fact Hallifax is mostly about scholars and artists.
Persevering against the harsh racism he faced (Seriously, Hallifax are such racists to lower intelligence Krokani), he learnt common and took an interest in books. After getting bored with swinging his hammer hundreds of times (I too know this boredom) he learnt to think as he swung and got into philosophy and poetry.
Thanks to taking a specialisation as tracking, he learnt to appreciate and respect the many animals around the Basin (After all, the Divine did take a hand in creating most of them, but he hates rabbits).
In short, he's a colossus beast (Shaped like a mutated gorilla) of a krokani, embracing his heritage of strength and war but not forgetting the skills taught to him that make him a cut above the other krokani, like in the grey moors. Or Lirangsha.
He hates both Lirangshans and Dominators.
He started out as a Genius Bruiser but is now a Warrior Poet. I also derived his 'Freedom is Slavery' motto and beliefs from 1984. Good book, all should read it.
P.S: To drive a point home, he has/had a Bachelor's Degree of Temporal Science (B. TS) from the Institute, officially.
A masked taurian exclaims, "Sugoi! Gorlois-kun is kawaii, uguu~!"
Seriously, Hallifax are such racists to lower intelligence Krokani
The race has nothing to do with it, everyone knows Hallifax just hateslaves stupid people :b
I wish I could add a 'but' there but... there isn't one. When I met... I forget the name, but I think he was Ushaara's predecessor. She actually went 'I know krokani are stupid bastards but I expected more from you'. Just... wow. Banging the guild admin too (blake) and letting him off on so many things because he was guild admin.
Gorlois has no regrets of leaving Hallifax, only in that he had to.

I forget who you're talking about, but I sort of agree with you if I remember the person correctly.
Everiine said: The reason population is low isn't because there are too many orgs. It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.
I crafted my character with the
notion of placing him in Celest but I changed my mind to Mag in the last
minute. It was something new to me since I've always RP-ed "good guys" -
you know, the noble knight who saves the princess....yet I believe I
came to an interesting mix between a sensitive soul and a dark place.
At
first I had him wear masks constantly so that he could cry beneath
them. Nakarel was really terrified. But in due time he got used to his
cruel surroundings. And also got tempted by the power of the Taint,
which twisted his mind a bit. Reincarnated into viscanti, formed a
strong bond with the Earth and all that. You know the jazz.
He is
still kind though. One can see that in his soft smile (probably the
emote I am using the most) and the patient care towards his comrades.
Part of his sensitivity is also contained within the arts - he LOVES to
draw and also writes from time to time /if you take a walk through our
Guild Hall, you'll see that every room has a painting made by him/. The
charm he preserved from his original trill nature /especially with the
ladies ^.^/
And to tap it all off - Nakarel has a strong sense of
duty. He puts his City and Guild before anything else, even family.
That's why he often finds himself on the battlefield (where you can see
him die x.x).

Okay.. I know this is way late, but in Blake's own defense, at the time of your leaving the Sentinels, after disrespecting Blake, as well as multiple other people IN CHARGE. Take note, that I say IN CHARGE, so OVER GORLOIS, and then moving on to start a conversation with Blake, after giving Gorlois a few chances, even still, Blake never really got away with jack, and was actually punished for quite a few things he did wrong and even still he wasn't 'banging' anyone at the time. Just wanted to let you know. Blake, if anything, tried helping Gorlois along, which is why he lasted as long as he did in the Sentinels. (Didn't really have a say for Hallifax). Just wanted to let you know, seeing as you don't seem to know what your talking about concerning Blake. Also the one who's name escapes you is Ejava. Thanks. (Once again, I apologise for the late response, and if this is in the wrong place, then do feel free to let me know, and I'll see if theres a way to remove it. Thank you for your time, and have a nice day )
Oh yay! I love these things, because I want people to see what Alary really is, rather than what she puts on.
Alary, at her very core, just wants to please and be loved. That's all she's ever wanted. She's silly to offset how dark her person really is. Really, only people who fight with her get a glimpse of how dark she can be. She's as devout as she is because she's terrified of losing herself to her own darkness, and she believes if she can cling to something greater than herself maybe she'll be alright. Now, this has turned into a great love for Mysrai. Alary would willingly offer up her soul and every bit she is to assist Mysrai. She doesn't cry very often, but there are times when The Lord-and-Lady praises her that Alary will go off in private and just have a little cry. Of happiness.
Fighting is who she is, and she;s not very good, but she doesn't let that stop her. She's got a lot of love to give, certain people have seen that. She's just twisted inside, not of her own making, but there nonetheless. She'll do what she has to to do what is required of her.
The little scholarly part is another defence against her inner darkness. She tries to hard to be smart, to be better. She's not verbose, she's not gifted in anything, but she keeps trying. She's damn stubborn, she'll be happy if she can just force herself to be.
Basically, her life is one giant struggle between darkness and happiness. Nobody's figured this out yet, and I don't even know what she'll do if someone confronts her about it.
So yeah, that's Alary.
Mysrai, the Beckoner Beyond the Maze intones, "Continue to manifest the paradigm of working, My Alary."
The Divine voice of Camus the Cinderfly echoes in your head, "Thank you, once-body. I am happy that I fell into that eye."
So you know that giant wall of text I posted on this thread ages back, it all changed. Also, I love this thread and it deserves a bump.
Tacita still believes that Gods are awful at understanding mortals; but she's come to realise that mortals are also awful at understanding Gods. She believes (rightly or wrongly) that because mortals view and experience the world purely through emotion, they are incapable of comprehending the true nature of divinity.
After the whole Xynthin debacle, she's become of the opinion that any sort of ascendancy is, thus, inherently dangerous. (Let's take a moment to laugh at her taste in men, given this perspective). She believes that if a mortal seeks to transcend their mortality and fan their divine spark in any fashion it is their responsibility to transcend the constraints of mortality, too - and begin to see the world through more than just emotion, lest they let it weigh them down and turn into hideous Nocht-attacking bastards insane powerhungry fakehusbands. She believes that only the Elder Gods can guide you in doing this, and that you must be willing to make great sacrifices in return for their 'tuition'.
In the past couple of months, however, she's shifted this slightly to contain the belief that there is also a part of her that will always remain mortal, at least unless she herself were to become a Vernal God, which she sees as basically impossible. Therefore whilst she should aim to surpass her mortality, she should also not expect to lose it entirely.
This has been hugely fun to RP out and I love that it's still evolving; I wanted to find a way to balance her becoming what Nocht wanted from her whilst also remaining true to the fact that she is a walking ball of emotional rollercoaster. Hopefully I am somewhere on the way to doing that, but at the very least, it has been and continues to be awesome fun.
