Colours to orghelp files

I don't know if this was brought up before or not, but it kind of hit me as an idea to why not let the players add colors when editing/creating scrolls for clans/orgs/projects etc? I don't think it would be THAT hard to do, maybe maybe not. Though I think it would brighten up the Lusternian everyday readings with more color than the usual black background and white text.  I know colours are optionally given for messages for orgs/guilds, but again, orghelp files would be LOVELY to add color options to texts in those formats.

  • I'm not sure that colours would be such a good idea. I know from personal experience I can't handle some of the colours used -- and even now in events where there are colour ambients/messages I find it hard to keep up (sometimes even having to copy and paste the text so I can read in another window), hence why I changed all my colours to suit my eyesight better.

What client do you use? Seems to me there may be a way to have a function that would uncolor everything except it is a color you approve of.

    I use Mudlet @Steingrim
  • @Anita Don't want to derail this thread. If you're willing to discuss this more, DM or message/tell me ingame, if not I'll consider it dropped.
  • Even so, re: the colours to files, not everyone will know how to disable colours and it could be overwhelming and/or off-putting to new players.

  • Don't you specifically need to turn colors on as a config at character creation? Should be easy to have an "extra colors" option that toggles player controlled colors.

No, colours are automatic. They give you the syntax to *change* your colours with CONFIG COLOURS -- so they can pick a colour that suits them for aethers/tells etc.
  • It's just a thought, I mean config colours is there for a reason and should tie into that configuration as an option in the Special:  or even as a new config option amongst the expansive list of on/off toggles in the config list. An example would be something like CONFIG INDEXCOLOURS  On/Off  quite honestly. That way the player can have control of seeing colored text in help files (if there is color in the file) or leave it as bland as it is now in just plain white. It being bland is just my personal opinion and it doesn't reflect anyone else's point of view.

And that's for the entire line(s) of text to be in one color.

  • What I'm referring to as well, is that the help file doesn't need to have the entirety of the scroll in ONE color, no no. More like if you want the player reading the scroll to pay attention to certain key words or put emphasis on a certain word or phrase(s) you can insert a color or colors to those targeted set of words.  For example, the common capitalization of commands like  "Be sure to ABJURE CLOAK"  can have the "abjure cloak" part in color like red or crimson color, is more of what I'm suggesting, but not the entire document hehe.

If it was server-side configurable using CONFIG COLOURS to turn it on/off.. then that would be a good idea!
I'm still unsure of using *colours* though - what someone might think is a great colour to highlight in, might not work for someone else, right? (Though I suppose that's where the CONFIG comes in, but then that's a bit unfair to turn off all index colours because of one file!)  Unless you go the route of being able to use a brighter white to make it stand out.
  • ANSI colour is a standard system whereby a limited set of colours can be transmitted over
the communication lines to be displayed on your client of choice. We highly recommend
using ANSI colour because it can make it much easier to see what is going on if various
things stand out visually. If, however, after enabling colour, you see various parts that
look like garbage (e.g. "[0;32m", etc.), your client does not support colour. In this case,
we highly recommend using a different client (such as our HTML5 client; available from our
    web page: http://client.lusternia.com).

    Usage:
    CONFIG ANSI ON/OFF

Your ANSI colour is currently: ON

    ???????????
  • Notably, at least one of the other games allows color tags in helpfiles, and I'm not aware of there being massive problems with it or people making every other word a different garish color or w/e, though of course that doesn't mean it's not a thing. Might be worth seeing how they manage it!

That isn't presented when a new person joins the game, nor does it say it in CONFIG COLOURS. Why should I - or anyone else - have to disable *all* colours because I don't like something in a helpfile?!

[And at least one other IRE iirc presents the config ansi option to start.]
  • I can totally understand the concept, as it appears to me at least its a matter of what works for one, doesn't necessarily work for another. Which is true as there's a lot of things about Lusternia I don't like, but I put up with it because its doable OR it has some function where I can disable it. Like the colour scheme for the Justice domoth, that deep dark blue, it boils my blood when that colour runs across the screen because I -literally- can't see not one word of it because it bleeds into the black background, but again, its doable in that case. It would be a burst of qol for me if they allowed that as a toggle in the "Special" section of config colour, I'd be all over that!
