Also: While you don't -have- to specify every single stance (it'll default to whatever the last stance did if you don't) it's usually a good idea to do so, because that lets you vary what you're doing based on whether you're going into the High or Low version of the Twist and Surge stances.
  • Just to add some general info and pointers!:

    1. You do not have to do the same kata in sequence stance after stance. Each attack may be from any form, and there is no benefit to staying in the same form. This allows you to, for example, make a form entirely of grapple initiators, and a form entirely of grapple enders, and alternate between them instead of trying to plan for every possibility at each stage in a linear style.

    2. With a few exceptions, the actions in each stance of each form can occur in any order. This is more relevant in PvP, but even in PvE, a kata form including the 'raze' to counteract shields will need an arm action in first position.

    3. Stances have several parts, and imo it can be confusing. Stances can be universally referred to by their position in the order, as Veyils laid it out above. So, all monks have 'Twist High' stance. However, each stance has two sets of bonuses associated with it.
    - All kata users have CAVEFISHERSTANCE which gives a damage bonus (and a conditional damage bonus based on reaching a certain stance in a certain timeframe)
    - Each kata specialization has an additional, more advanced version. For Shofangi, the advanced Twist High
stance is GORE, which causes the slickness affliction.

You are not picking these effects, nor are they exclusive. You do not at any time specify cavefisher stance or gore stance. Any time a Shofangi monk is in Twist High, they are also in both Cavefisher and Gore stances.

    4. Every time you make a form attack like Veyils shows above, you progress to the next stance UNLESS you specify otherwise using particular abilities, like URCHINSTANCE (which is called a stance, but is really just a transition backwards in the stance progression). The only thing you have to specify is whether you want your twist and surge forms to go into into twist/surge high or twist/surge low.

    5. The difference between those high/low forms is the effect, as per point #3 above. If a Shofangi does Twist Low, they will not be in Cavefisher or Gore stance, and would instead get the appropriate alternative effects.
