If it truly is a passive reaction, I'd say that it should work both Day and Night, since Sylandra otherwise has no powers and all and is plain old vanilla townie.
As I said, I believe battling is an integral part of the game, and part of how I understand battling to work is that the trainer is in control of their Pokemon's abilities, no matter whether it's a reactive effect or not.
